There’s a song that the local Koari people sing along the Kokoda Track that we hear quite often … ‘it’s not an easy road’. The words resonate in your ears as you walk the track, following in the footsteps of heroes. This is tough, brutal, and yet, oh so rewarding for all those who take on the journey.
A bucket list item for many, the Kokoda Track is a 96 km journey over 9 days – a gruelling challenge through muddy jungle paths, over large mountain ranges, far away from the comforts of home we are used to. To add to the challenge, some push their limits and complete the track in 6 days.

Robin (this one a trekker, not the guide), Hayley, Pip, Bruno, Juliana, Jade and Sara took on the challenge of a fast Kokoda, starting at Kokoda village on the 19th April & finishing at Owers Corner on 24th April. Wow, what a group and what an amazing effort! No challenge was too much for these trekkers.
The journey had many highlights which included special services at Isurava and Brigade Hill where stories were shared of the heroic actions of soldiers during the Kokoda campaign. Watching the fireflies light up the night sky, amazing sunrises and sunsets, spending time with the children at Kagi and seeing 3 bird of paradise in the trees above were other memorable moments that won’t be forgotten.
The challenge of completing a fast crossing is the long days of trekking over varying terrain. Pushing their limits, the group formed a team and encouraged each other through the journey. Endless chatter, sharing stories with each other, learning about the culture and traditions from the local team… every moment was a joy and made those difficult moments so much easier. When the limits were pushed beyond, barking like dogs helped us all reach our destination,
